ChatGPT chatgpt.com

  1. Open Plugins, click +, then Add custom MCP server.
  2. Enter the name HotelRunner and this URL, choose OAuth as the authentication, confirm the warning and create it:
    https://hotelrunner.usefulapi.io/mcp
  3. ChatGPT opens the login page: enter your HR_ID (property id) and TOKEN.
  4. In Plugins, install HotelRunner, then choose it in a chat.

No Add custom MCP server option? It depends on your account or workspace settings: see OpenAI's guide.

Codex

Run these commands. The second one opens the login page:

codex mcp add hotelrunner --url https://hotelrunner.usefulapi.io/mcp
codex mcp login hotelrunner

Other MCP clients (Windsurf, Cline, Zed and more): add the URL as a remote MCP server (Streamable HTTP). The client then opens the login page in your browser. Do not add an Authorization header: see Before you connect.

live12 toolsFree 50 tool calls / monthPro $9/mo · $90/yr

Before you connect

The login page asks for your HR_ID (property id) and TOKEN.

In the HotelRunner property panel open My Property and create an app key (HotelRunner Apps); the page shows the HR_ID (your property id) and the TOKEN. HotelRunner limits each property to 250 API requests a day and 5 a minute, so ask for what you need rather than browsing. Your credentials are used only to call the HotelRunner API on your behalf; they are never shown to anyone.

Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config. The server signs you in with OAuth: the login page asks for your HR_ID (property id) and TOKEN. If the config has such a header, remove it: some clients then send that header instead of the login token, and every call fails with 401.

Example prompts

Turn on the HotelRunner connector, then ask in plain words. The AI picks the tools.

Tools 12

ToolTypeWhat it does
hotelrunner_list_roomsread
List rooms and rates
List the property's room types and rates with their inv_code and rate_code, capacity, pricing type, sales currency, connected channel codes and whether availability, restrictions and prices can be updated through the API. Use the inv_code with hotelrunner_update_room_calendar. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). GET /api/v2/apps/rooms.
hotelrunner_list_reservationsread
List reservations
List reservations of the property (new, modified, canceled), newest data first as HotelRunner returns them, 1-50 per page. By default ALL reservations created in the window are returned (this tool sets undelivered=false, so reading does not depend on a PMS having fetched them). from_date is the creation date (HotelRunner keeps at most 30 days back; default 10 days); from_last_update_date finds reservations changed since a date. detail 'summary' (default) gives guest, dates, rooms, totals, payment state and contact; 'full' returns the whole vendor record including billing address, national id, daily prices and extras. Reply: items, count, page, pages, next_page. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). GET /api/v2/apps/reservations.
hotelrunner_get_reservationread
Get reservation
One reservation by its HotelRunner code (hr_number, e.g. R377873409) or the sales channel's own reservation code, with the full vendor record (rooms, daily prices, extras, payments, guest and billing details, next_states). If the reservation is older than HotelRunner's lookup window, pass from_date. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). GET /api/v2/apps/reservations?reservation_number=.
hotelrunner_list_channelsread
List sales channels
All sales channels HotelRunner supports (name and code, e.g. bookingcom, expedia, hrs, online). The code is what hotelrunner_update_room_calendar takes in channel_codes. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). GET /api/v2/apps/infos/channels.
hotelrunner_list_connected_channelsread
List connected channels
The channels this property is connected to, each with counts of calendar update processes in progress, succeeded and failed. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). GET /api/v2/apps/infos/connected_channels.
hotelrunner_get_transaction_detailsread
Get calendar update status
Per-channel status of a calendar update: pass the transaction_id returned by hotelrunner_update_room_calendar. Shows succeeded / failed / in-progress counts and each channel's state and error message. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). GET /api/v2/apps/infos/transaction_details.
hotelrunner_update_room_calendarwrite
Update room availability, prices and restrictions
WRITE: change availability, price, minimum/maximum stay, stop-sale, closed-to-arrival (cta) or closed-to-departure (ctd) for ONE room type (inv_code) over a date range of at most 90 days, optionally only on some weekdays and only on some channels. Only the fields you pass are changed. This is LIVE inventory: HotelRunner pushes it to every connected channel (Booking.com, Expedia, your own booking engine, ...) and it changes what guests can book and pay. The price is the base-rate price in the property's sales currency; guest-based prices derive from it. Only rooms whose availability_update / restrictions_update / price_update flag is true (hotelrunner_list_rooms) accept that kind of change. HotelRunner answers asynchronously: the reply has a transaction_id; check per-channel results with hotelrunner_get_transaction_details. Send one change per call, not a full refresh. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). PUT /api/v2/apps/rooms/daily.
hotelrunner_update_reservation_statewrite
Confirm or cancel a reservation
WRITE: move ONE reservation to the next state: event 'confirm' (hotelier accepts it) or 'cancel' (cancels it; cancel_reason is required: customer, no_room, no_show or invalid_price). Cancel is not reversible through this API and releases the room; HotelRunner may notify the guest or the sales channel (Booking.com, Expedia, ...), so only cancel when the user clearly asked for it, and pass confirm=true for a cancel. Only possible when the reservation's requires_response is true and the event is in its next_states (see hotelrunner_get_reservation); otherwise HotelRunner answers state_change_is_not_available. Counts as one of the property's 250 requests per day (5 per minute). PUT /api/v2/apps/reservations/fire.
hotelrunner_usage_statusmeta
Usage status (free-tier meter)
Report the caller's current usage: the plan, calls used this month, the limit of the plan (the free monthly cap or the Pro fair use limit), remaining, and whether the limit is reached. Read-only; does not count against the meter.
hotelrunner_request_featuremeta
Request a missing feature
Tell usefulapi that the user needs something the HotelRunner tools cannot do yet (a missing tool, field or filter). Call it only when the user asks for something none of the tools can do, and tell the user that you send the request. Do not call it for errors or for normal requests. Do not include personal data, credentials or customer records. Stored with the product name and the client type (for example Claude or Cursor), without the user's account. At most 5 requests per day. Does not count against the meter.
hotelrunner_upgrademeta
Upgrade to Pro (unlimited*)
Get Pro: unlimited tool calls (fair use limit: 10,000 a month) on HotelRunner (the free tier caps monthly usage). Plans: "monthly" — $9/month; "yearly" — $90/year (2 months free). Cancel any time: Pro then runs to the end of the paid period, so it also suits a one-time job. *A fair use limit applies. For heavy use (near Pro's limit): "plus" or "plus_yearly" — Pro+, $19/month or $190/year, unlimited tool calls (fair use limit: 100,000 a month); an existing Pro subscription changes to Pro+ in place (needs confirm: true; the price difference for the rest of the period is charged at once). Otherwise returns a short link to open in your browser (it opens Stripe Checkout); after payment the account upgrades automatically. Does not count against the meter.
hotelrunner_cancel_subscriptionmeta
Cancel the Pro subscription
Cancel the caller's HotelRunner Pro subscription at the end of the paid period (no refund for the current period; Pro continues until then, then the free tier applies). Requires confirm: true. Run hotelrunner_upgrade later to undo the cancel before the period ends. Does not count against the meter.

FAQ

Is this an official HotelRunner product?

No. usefulapi is an independent service. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by HotelRunner. The server calls the HotelRunner API with your own HotelRunner access, so it sees only the data that your account can see.

Can I connect HotelRunner to Claude or ChatGPT?

Yes. In Claude, add this server's URL as a custom connector. In ChatGPT, add it as a custom MCP server in Plugins. Then log in once. Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and Codex work too. See the setup steps.

What do I need to connect?

The login page asks for your HR_ID (property id) and TOKEN. See Before you connect for where to find them.

Do I put my HotelRunner key or an Authorization header in the client config?

No. Add only the URL. Do not add an Authorization header or an API key to the client config. The server signs you in with OAuth: the login page asks for your HR_ID (property id) and TOKEN. If the config has such a header, remove it: some clients then send that header instead of the login token, and every call fails with 401.

How do you keep my HotelRunner credentials?

The login stores them encrypted in the authorization grant of your connection. The server uses them to call the HotelRunner API for you and to derive a private account id for usage metering. usefulapi does not show them on any page or in any reply. To stop all access, remove the connector and change or delete these credentials in HotelRunner.

Can the AI change my HotelRunner data?

Yes, if you approve it. 2 of the 8 HotelRunner tools can create or change data. The other 6 are marked read-only. Most MCP clients ask you to approve a tool call before it runs.

What does it cost?

The Free plan gives 50 tool calls / month. Pro costs $9/mo or $90/yr, with unlimited tool calls (fair use limit: 10,000 tool calls a month), for this HotelRunner server only. Cancel any time: Pro then runs to the end of the paid period. Run hotelrunner_usage_status to see how many calls you used.

How do I subscribe or cancel?

Ask the AI to run hotelrunner_upgrade: it returns a Stripe Checkout link. To cancel, run hotelrunner_cancel_subscription. Pro continues to the end of the paid period.

What if a HotelRunner tool that I need is missing?

Tell the AI what you wanted to do. It can send the request with hotelrunner_request_feature. We store the text with the server name, the type of AI client and the tool you tried, not with your account, and read every request when we plan new tools. You can send up to 5 requests per day.

Which AI clients can I use?

Any client that supports remote MCP servers (Streamable HTTP) with OAuth login: Claude (web and desktop), Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf and others.

This is a Model Context Protocol endpoint — meant to be connected from an AI client, not opened in a browser. An invalid_token response at the URL is the auth gate working as designed; clients authenticate automatically.
